The massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has directly effected the wildlife of Plaquemines Parish.  Thousands of animals have been killed or injured through contact with the hazardous petroleum products emanating from the destroyed Deepwater Horizon well.  The effects of this environmental disaster will be felt in Plaquemines Parish for years to come.  This web site has been created by the Plaquemines Parish District Attorney's office to allow the citizens of the Parish to assist the D.A. in cataloging every animal effected by this tragedy, so that the parties responsible for this disaster are held accountable.

If you encounter deceased animals that may have died as the result of contact with oil from the BP spill, please document your discovery, taking photographs and noting the time and location of your find.  From this site then use the SUBMIT A WILDLIFE IMPACT REPORT page to report your finding to the District Attorney's Office for further investigation.

To contact the Plaquemines Wildlife Watch Hotline call 1-800-745-3240.

If you spot harmed or struggling wildlife and require immediate assistance,
please contact the Deepwater Horizon Command Center.

A Message from Charles J. Ballay,
Plaquemines Parish District Attorney

The wildlife of Plaquemines Parish has been cherished by its citizens for generations. The birds, fish, and other animals of our unique habitat are not only valued for their own lives and sheer beauty, they also provide a livelihood for many of our citizens.

Since the Deepwater Horizon tragedy and its pollution of our environment, our wildlife and habitat have never been at greater risk.  Animals of every imaginable species are dying every day and their habitat continues to be polluted.

I recently filed suit against the parties responsible for the great harm that has come to our wildlife in order to penalize them for each and every bird, fish, mammal, and other living creature that has been or will be harmed or killed.  The money from these fines will help our state to recover from this disaster and restore our natural resources.

But I cannot do this alone. I need your help.  Your efforts in photographing and documenting the harm to our wildlife is essential to holding the responsible parties accountable and recovering the funds necessary to bring our parish’s wildlife and habitat back.
